The Story

From Agadir to the Red City

This seven-day private Morocco tour from Agadir is designed for travelers who want to experience the country's most iconic destinations in a single complete week — moving from the Atlantic coast across the Anti-Atlas mountains to the kasbahs of the south, into the Sahara at Merzouga, up to the imperial city of Fes, then west to the Atlantic at Casablanca, and ending in Marrakech.

The tour combines all of Morocco's signature experiences: the scenic Anti-Atlas crossing through Taroudant and Taliouine, the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou kasbah, the spectacular Todra Gorges, a sunset camel trek into the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi, a night in a comfortable Sahara desert camp, a full guided cultural day inside the medieval Fes medina, the magnificent Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, and arrival in the Red City of Marrakech.

You'll travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own English-speaking driver, stay in carefully chosen riads, kasbah-style hotels, and a Sahara desert camp, and end the tour in Marrakech — perfectly positioned for departure from Marrakech-Menara Airport or to extend your stay in the Red City.

Anti-Atlas crossing from Agadir to Ouarzazate
Day 01

Agadir → Anti-Atlas → Ouarzazate

Pick-up from your Agadir hotel or Agadir Al Massira Airport and begin a long but scenic drive east across the Anti-Atlas mountains. Stops along the way include Taroudant — a historic walled town nicknamed the "Grandmother of Marrakech" — and Taliouine, the saffron capital of Morocco. The road climbs through dramatic mountain landscapes with sweeping views and Berber villages along the way. Arrive in Ouarzazate ("Hollywood of Morocco") by evening for overnight in a comfortable kasbah-style hotel, with optional visit of the Taourirt Kasbah.

Day 02

Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

After breakfast, drive a short distance to Aït Ben Haddou — the UNESCO-listed mud-brick kasbah where Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. Walk up through the ksar for panoramic views over the southern plains. Continue east along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" through the Skoura palm grove with a visit to the famous Kasbah Amridil. Arrive in the Dades Valley by late afternoon with its red rock formations and famous "monkey fingers" rocks for overnight in a kasbah-style hotel built into the valley walls.

Day 03

Dades → Todra Gorges → Merzouga Sahara

Drive east to the spectacular Todra Gorges where canyon walls rise 300+ meters above a narrow stream — time to walk inside the canyon between the cliffs. Continue through palm groves and desert plains toward Merzouga, arriving at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in the late afternoon. At sunset, ride a camel into the dunes as the sand turns from gold to pink to deep orange — the legendary Sahara sunset camel trek. Dinner under the stars at your comfortable desert camp with Berber music drifting around the fire and an unforgettable night under the desert sky.

Day 04

Merzouga → Middle Atlas → Fes

Wake before dawn to climb a nearby dune and watch the sun rise over the Sahara — one of those moments that stays with you for life. After breakfast at the camp, begin the long but spectacular drive north to Fes. Leave the Sahara through Erfoud and the Ziz Valley canyon, then ascend into the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas with a stop at Ifrane — nicknamed "Little Switzerland" — and a chance to spot the wild Barbary macaques. Continue through Midelt for lunch and arrive in Fes by early evening for overnight in a luxury riad inside the medina.

Walk through the world's largest car-free medieval city — a UNESCO World Heritage site that has remained essentially unchanged for over a thousand years. Visit the famous Chouara tanneries with their dramatic vats of natural dyes, the Al-Quaraouiyine — the world's oldest continuously operating university — the Bou Inania Madrasa with its stunning zellige tiles and carved cedar, the artisan quarters where craftsmen still work copper, leather, mosaic, and silk by hand, and the royal palace gates. Free afternoon to wander or rest at your riad.

Frequently Asked

Tour FAQ

Why does this tour end in Marrakech instead of returning to Agadir?
Ending in Marrakech is the most efficient choice for a 7-day tour — it eliminates a 3-hour return transfer day to Agadir and gives you a full final day arriving at the Red City. Marrakech-Menara Airport has direct flights to most major European cities, so departing from Marrakech is straightforward. If you'd prefer to return to Agadir, we can extend the tour by one day to include the final coastal drive.
Day 1 looks long — is the Anti-Atlas drive comfortable?
Day 1 is the longest driving day of the tour — approximately 7–8 hours total from Agadir to Ouarzazate via Taroudant and Taliouine. The route is scenic and we make several stops (Taroudant walls, Taliouine saffron region, viewpoints in the Anti-Atlas) to break up the drive. The vehicle is air-conditioned and comfortable. Most travelers find the landscapes worth the time. If you'd prefer a softer Day 1, we can add an overnight in Taroudant to split the drive.
Is the 7-day pace too fast?
The 7-day tour is intentionally compact to fit Morocco's essential destinations within a single week. The longest driving days are Day 1 (Agadir to Ouarzazate, 7–8 hours) and Day 4 (Merzouga to Fes, 8–9 hours). If you'd prefer a slower pace, our 10-day Morocco tour from Agadir adds Marrakech (2 nights with guided day), Chefchaouen, and softer driving days.
Is this tour private?
Yes — 100% private. Just you and your travel companions, your own English-speaking driver/guide, and a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. No other travelers, no group bus, no fixed group schedule. Daily timing and stops are entirely flexible based on your interests.
Where do we sleep in the Sahara?
The Sahara night is spent in a comfortable desert camp at Erg Chebbi. Each tent is private with comfortable beds, en-suite bathroom (shower and toilet), and a Berber-style lounge area. Dinner is served under the stars with Berber drumming around the fire. Luxury camp upgrades are available on request for an additional fee.
Can we visit the Hassan II Mosque interior?
Yes — the Hassan II Mosque is one of only a few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. Interior guided tours are available daily at fixed times (typically 9am, 10am, 11am, and 2pm except on Friday mornings during prayer). The entrance fee (approximately 140 MAD per person) is not included in the tour price. We can plan your Day 6 or Day 7 morning around the mosque tour schedule.
Can I add nights in Marrakech?
Absolutely. The tour ends in Marrakech on Day 7, so you can easily add additional nights at the end for a full Marrakech experience — a full guided day with a licensed local guide (Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, Majorelle Gardens, souks), a cooking class, a day trip to Ourika Valley or Essaouira, or simply more time to enjoy your riad. We can book your extra Marrakech nights for you.
What's the best time of year for this tour?
Morocco is a year-round destination. The best months for this tour are March–May (spring, mild and green) and September–November (autumn, warm but not hot). June–August can be very hot in the Sahara and Marrakech, though Agadir and the Atlantic coast stay comfortable. December–February brings cooler days, occasional rain, snow in the Atlas, and the most atmospheric desert nights.
