8 Days Morocco Tour From Tangier
A balanced one-week-plus private Morocco journey from Tangier with extra time for culture, the Sahara, and Marrakech at a softer pace — Chefchaouen's blue alleys, the Fes medina, a Sahara desert camp, and the UNESCO kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou before crossing the Atlas to the Red City.
A Balanced Week-Plus From Tangier
This eight-day private Morocco tour from Tangier is designed for travelers who want to see Morocco's essential destinations at a softer, more balanced pace — with two nights in Fes for the cultural visit, a memorable Sahara desert experience at Merzouga, and an overnight near Aït Ben Haddou to enjoy sunset over the UNESCO kasbah without rushing through it.
The route starts at the cosmopolitan Mediterranean port of Tangier and moves south through Chefchaouen's blue alleys, the imperial city of Fes (with a full guided cultural day), the Middle Atlas cedar forests, the Sahara dunes at Merzouga, and the southern kasbahs and gorges. Instead of rushing from the Sahara back to Marrakech in one long driving day, the tour includes an overnight in a charming hotel near Aït Ben Haddou — letting you walk the ksar at sunset and again in the early morning before the tour buses arrive.
You'll travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own English-speaking driver, stay in carefully chosen riads, boutique hotels, and a comfortable desert camp, and experience Morocco at your own pace — ending the tour in Marrakech or continuing to Casablanca for international departure.
From Tangier, Across Morocco
Your 8-Day Programme
Arrival in Tangier
Welcome to Morocco. Airport or port pick-up in Tangier with a warm Moroccan welcome and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon optional visit of the Kasbah perched above the Strait of Gibraltar, the colorful medina with its Andalusian-Moroccan architecture, and Cape Spartel — the famous viewpoint where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. Evening at leisure with optional dinner overlooking the Strait, watching the lights of Spain twinkle across the water.
Tangier → Chefchaouen
After breakfast, drive south through the Rif Mountains — one of the most beautiful drives in northern Morocco — with an optional stop at Tetouan, the UNESCO-listed white city with its Andalusian heritage. Arrive in Chefchaouen by early afternoon and check into your boutique hotel inside the blue medina. Spend the rest of the day wandering through the famous blue alleys at your own pace, browsing artisan shops and Berber rug weavers, visiting the Kasbah and ethnographic museum. End the day with the hike up to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint for the best panoramic sunset over the town.
Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes
Leave Chefchaouen after a final morning walk in the blue alleys for unforgettable photos in the soft light. Drive south through olive groves and rolling hills to the Roman ruins of Volubilis — a UNESCO site with intact 3rd-century mosaics that have survived almost two thousand years. Continue to Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, for a stop at the magnificent Bab Mansour gate and the royal granaries. Arrive in Fes by early evening for overnight in a traditional luxury riad inside the medina, with dinner served on the rooftop overlooking the rooftops of the old city.
Fes — Full Guided Cultural Day
A full day exploring Fes with a licensed local guide who knows every alley of the medina. Walk through the world's largest car-free medieval city — a UNESCO World Heritage site that has remained essentially unchanged for over a thousand years. Visit the famous Chouara tanneries with their dramatic vats of natural dyes, the Al-Quaraouiyine — the world's oldest continuously operating university — the Bou Inania Madrasa with its stunning zellige tiles and carved cedar, the artisan quarters where craftsmen still work copper, leather, mosaic, and silk by hand, and the royal palace gates. Free afternoon to wander, shop, or relax at your riad with a hammam.
Fes → Middle Atlas → Merzouga Sahara
A long but spectacular day across Morocco. Cross the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas with a stop at Ifrane — nicknamed "Little Switzerland" for its alpine architecture — and a chance to spot the wild Barbary macaques in the cedar groves. Continue through Midelt, the Ziz Valley canyon with its endless palm grove, and the desert plains to reach Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, ride a camel into the dunes as the sand turns from gold to pink to deep orange. Dinner under the stars at your comfortable desert camp, with Berber music drifting around the fire — one of the most unforgettable nights of the tour.
Merzouga → Todra Gorges → Aït Ben Haddou
Sunrise over the dunes followed by breakfast at the camp. Leave the desert and drive west along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs." Stop at the spectacular Todra Gorges where canyon walls rise 300+ meters above a narrow stream — time to walk inside the canyon. Continue through the Dades Valley, the Skoura palm grove, and Ouarzazate (the "Hollywood of Morocco") to reach Aït Ben Haddou by late afternoon — the UNESCO-listed mud-brick kasbah where Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. Walk through the ksar at sunset when the light is at its most magical, before overnight in a charming hotel just across the river with views of the kasbah from your terrace.
Aït Ben Haddou → High Atlas → Marrakech
An unhurried morning at Aït Ben Haddou — a final walk through the ksar in the soft light before the tour buses arrive, or breakfast on your terrace with views of the kasbah. Begin the scenic drive over the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 meters — the highest mountain pass in North Africa — with sweeping panoramas in every direction and stops at viewpoints over the Berber villages perched on the mountainsides. Arrive in Marrakech by mid-afternoon and check into a traditional luxury riad in the heart of the medina. Afternoon walking tour of Marrakech with your driver-guide — visit the iconic Koutoubia Mosque and explore the colorful souks. As evening falls, walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa square for the legendary spectacle.
Marrakech → Casablanca → Departure
Morning at leisure in Marrakech depending on your flight time — a final souk visit for last-minute shopping, a relaxing hammam ritual at your riad, or a quick visit to the Bahia Palace or Majorelle Gardens. After lunch, drive north along the highway to Casablanca (approximately 3 hours). Optional final stop to admire the magnificent Hassan II Mosque — the largest mosque in Africa — before drop-off at Mohammed V Airport for your departure flight. End of an unforgettable Moroccan journey from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic.
