Tour Overview

A Day in the Mountains

The Ouzoud Waterfalls — known as "Cascades d'Ouzoud" — are Morocco's most spectacular natural wonder. A dramatic 110-meter triple cascade tumbles through olive groves and red cliffs in the Middle Atlas Mountains, about 150 kilometers northeast of Marrakech.

This relaxed private day trip takes you across the Atlas foothills and through traditional Berber villages before reaching the top of the falls. From there, you'll walk down through ancient olive groves to the base, where you can swim in natural pools, take a small wooden boat right beneath the spray, watch Barbary macaques on the cliffs, and enjoy a riverside lunch with panoramic views.

It's a refreshing escape from the heat and energy of Marrakech — a slow, peaceful day immersed in nature, mountains, water, and small-village Morocco. Perfect for families, couples, photographers, and anyone who needs a green pause during their stay.

Frequently Asked

Day Trip FAQ

How far is Ouzoud from Marrakech?
Ouzoud is about 150 kilometers (90 miles) northeast of Marrakech — roughly a 2.5 to 3-hour scenic drive each way through the Atlas foothills and traditional Moroccan countryside. The full day round-trip is approximately 10 hours including stops, walking, and lunch.
Is the walk down to the falls difficult?
The walk down to the base of the falls is on a well-maintained paved path with steps and viewpoints, taking 20–30 minutes at a relaxed pace. The walk back up is the harder part — moderate exertion required. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Travelers with mobility issues can stay at the top viewpoint or take a shorter section of the trail.
Is the boat ride safe? Is it included?
Yes — the small wooden boats are operated by local boatmen who do this dozens of times a day. They go right up to the base of the falls so you'll feel the spray. The boat ride is optional and not included in the tour price — it's a small fee paid directly to the boatman on site (typically around 20 MAD per person, about €2).
Are the Barbary macaques tame?
The Barbary macaques living around Ouzoud are wild but accustomed to visitors — they often come close to the path looking for food. Please do not feed or touch them, and keep your bags zipped. Watch from a respectful distance and your guide will share the best spots to see them.
Can we swim at the falls?
Yes — there are natural pools at the base of the falls where swimming is allowed and refreshing, especially in summer. The water is cool year-round (it comes straight from mountain springs). Bring a swimsuit and towel if you'd like to swim, and remember the water can be quite cold even on hot days.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes — Ouzoud is one of the most family-friendly day trips from Marrakech. Children especially love the monkeys, the boat ride, and the swimming. The walk down is manageable for kids aged 5 and up. For younger children or strollers, you can stay at the top viewpoint and enjoy the panoramic views.
What should I bring?
Comfortable walking shoes (no flip-flops on the trail), sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a light jacket (it can be breezy near the falls), some cash for lunch and the boat ride, your camera, and a swimsuit and towel if you'd like to swim. Water is provided in the vehicle.
When is the best time to visit?
Ouzoud is beautiful year-round, but spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons — mild weather and full water flow. Summer can be hot but the falls are refreshing, and winter brings dramatic full-flow cascades and quieter trails. The falls flow throughout the year.
