The Story

From Imperial Fes to the Red City

This seven-day private Morocco tour from Fes is designed for travelers who arrive at Fes-Saïs Airport and want to experience the country's most iconic destinations in a single complete week — starting with a full guided cultural day in the world's largest car-free medina, then descending south to the Sahara Desert at Merzouga, and continuing west through the scenic valleys, kasbahs, and the Atlas Mountains to end in Marrakech.

The tour combines all of Morocco's signature experiences: a licensed local guide leading you through the labyrinthine alleys of Fes — including the Chouara tanneries, Al-Quaraouiyine university, and the artisan quarters — followed by a sunset camel trek into the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi and a night in a comfortable Sahara desert camp under the stars. The route then crosses the Todra Gorges, the Dades Valley, the Skoura palm grove, and the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou before crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

You'll travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own English-speaking driver, stay in carefully chosen riads, boutique kasbah hotels, and a Sahara desert camp, and end the tour in Marrakech — perfectly positioned for departure from Marrakech-Menara Airport or to extend your stay in the Red City.

Day 03

Fes → Middle Atlas → Merzouga Sahara

A long but spectacular day across Morocco. Cross the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas with a stop at Ifrane — nicknamed "Little Switzerland" — and a chance to spot the wild Barbary macaques in the cedar groves. Continue through Midelt, the Ziz Valley canyon with its endless palm grove, and the desert plains to reach Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, ride a camel into the dunes as the sand turns from gold to pink to deep orange. Dinner under the stars at your comfortable Sahara desert camp, with Berber music drifting around the fire.

Day 04

Merzouga → Todra Gorges → Dades Valley

Sunrise over the dunes followed by breakfast at the camp. Leave the desert and drive west along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs." Visit the spectacular Todra Gorges where canyon walls rise 300+ meters above a narrow stream — time to walk inside the canyon. Continue to the Dades Valley with its red rock formations and famous "monkey fingers" rocks. Overnight in a kasbah-style hotel built into the valley walls, with dinner served on a terrace overlooking the cliffs at sunset.

Day 05

A slow day designed for the southern landscapes. Drive west through the Skoura palm grove with a visit to the famous Kasbah Amridil. Continue to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco," for a stop at the Taourirt Kasbah and optionally the Atlas Film Studios. End the day at Aït Ben Haddou — the UNESCO-listed mud-brick kasbah where Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. Walk through the ksar at sunset when the light is at its most magical, before overnight in a charming hotel just across the river with views of the kasbah from your terrace.

Begin the scenic drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 meters — the highest mountain pass in North Africa. Sweeping panoramas in every direction with photo stops at viewpoints over the Berber villages perched on the mountainsides. Arrive in Marrakech by mid-afternoon and check into a traditional luxury riad in the heart of the medina. Frequently Asked

Tour FAQ

Why does this tour start in Fes and end in Marrakech?
This one-way route is the most efficient circuit for a 7-day Morocco tour — you fly into Fes-Saïs Airport, follow the natural geography of the country south to the Sahara and west across the Atlas, and fly out from Marrakech-Menara Airport. Both airports have direct flights from many European cities. You don't lose a full day backtracking to your starting point.
Is it easy to find flights into Fes?
Yes — Fes-Saïs Airport has direct flights from many European cities (Paris, Madrid, Marseille, Brussels, Barcelona, Lyon, and more) operated by airlines like Ryanair, Air Arabia Maroc, Royal Air Maroc, and Transavia. If your home airport doesn't have a direct connection, you can also fly to Casablanca and take the high-speed Al Boraq train to Fes in about 4 hours.
Is the 7-day pace too fast?
The 7-day tour is intentionally compact but well-balanced — it includes a full guided day in Fes, a Sahara night, a slow southern valleys day, an Aït Ben Haddou overnight for the kasbah at sunset, and an afternoon plus evening in Marrakech. The only long driving day is Day 3 (Fes to Merzouga, approximately 8–9 hours). If you'd prefer a slower pace, we recommend adding an extra night in Marrakech or the Sahara.
Is this tour private?
Yes — 100% private. Just you and your travel companions, your own English-speaking driver/guide, and a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. No other travelers, no group bus, no fixed group schedule. Daily timing and stops are entirely flexible based on your interests.
Where do we sleep in the Sahara?
The Sahara night is spent in a comfortable desert camp at Erg Chebbi. Each tent is private with comfortable beds, en-suite bathroom (shower and toilet), and a Berber-style lounge area. Dinner is served under the stars with Berber drumming around the fire. Luxury camp upgrades are available on request for an additional fee.
Why is there no full guided day in Marrakech?
The 7-day program places its full guided cultural day in Fes, with an afternoon walking tour and evening at Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech on Day 6. If you'd like to add a full guided Marrakech day with a licensed local guide — Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, Majorelle Gardens, and souks — we can add an extra night in Marrakech (extending to 8 days). This is one of the most rewarding upgrades.
Can the itinerary be customized?
Absolutely. The 7-day program is a flexible base — you can add nights anywhere (Marrakech, the Sahara, Aït Ben Haddou), upgrade to luxury riads or a luxury desert camp, add cooking classes or hammam visits, include a second Sahara night for a nomad experience day, or build a completely original itinerary. Tell us your interests and we'll tailor the journey to fit you perfectly.
What's the best time of year for this tour?
Morocco is a year-round destination. The best months for this tour are March–May (spring, mild and green) and September–November (autumn, warm but not hot). June–August can be very hot in the Sahara and Marrakech, though Fes and the Atlas stay more comfortable. December–February brings cooler days, occasional rain, snow in the Atlas, and the most atmospheric desert nights.
